Today we started planning how we are going to go about the presentation on friday.We discussed what were the biggest parts of the presentation and how it should be sectioned.

We also began and have almost finished our report. We all agreed on the general layout of the report and I wrote it up.

After much critique on the prototype design for the website I thought about how I could make a visual connection between this and the app but incorporate a colour and friendly veg related background.
This was my outcome:
I think it works because even though the background looks nothing like the iPhone app the navigation elements and colour schemes and icons for vegetables are consistent.

The progress bar will show the percentage of the plants development from the date planted to expected harvest date. As well as pop up images/icons at various key stages in the plants development.

This image is a work in progress: Some visual and usability issues need to be fixed. This image does not show the pop up images of the plant in question and some other features(name, date/week info ect)

After our Prototype Presentation we were eager to meet up and discuss the presentation and where we go from here.

Meeting Issues:

1. General Reactions from Prototype Presentations

As a whole we were quite disappointed with the feedback we got from the presentation.We felt that we did do a significant amount of work in the 2weeks leading up to the presentation and that recognized by the lecturers.

That said, we did agree that
1. We did fail to sell our unique feature of our product.
2. We didn’t portray all that well the connect between the app and the website.Design lacked consistency
3.We did not present any graphical information on our research.

With those points in mind, we decided on our piorities for the next 17 Days.They are:

1.Completed iPhone App & Website & Timeline with Completed Design & Content [5 Simple Veg / 5 Experienced Veg / Tips Section]
2.Research: Target Market / Usability Design / Technology.
3.Usability: Interviews/ testing with at least 3 ppl _>Silverback.
4.Presentation Practiced // Recorded -> Room book for Weds 12th (all day)
5. Blog Entries.

Similar Gardening iPhone Apps

There are similar products to ours that we found from researching into the need for this multimedia product. But majority of the apps, presume you have some experience in vegetable gardening and really doesn’t cater for a novice gardener nor does it try to convince people to start grow their own veg.Here our some of other vegetable gardening apps we found:

1.FlowerPaedia.

This app has over photos of over 1500 flowers which can be used as backgrounds, emailed or browsed through.Contains over 100 families of flowers with tips on how to identify them.

2. iLocate- Gardening Supplies

This app has an extensive database with contact info, directions to locate gardening stores where ever you are.

3. Gardening Lifestyle

This app tells tells you how to plant healthy garden with a database on from which to choose, instructions on how to plant, and when to expect to harvest.
This app does have a feature for allowing the user to take pictures to document your progress but doesn’t provide information the plant according to their stage of growth

Our unique selling point of our product is the timeline feature, with this we allow the user to log their vegetable so that they are then presented with realtime information on the vegetable they chose to grow and tips according to its stage of growth on the timeline. We believe also that this timeline will be key in making novice gardeners that’s growing your own vegetable is simple and fun to do.

4. Vegetable Gardening Guide

This app is provides step-by-step instructions, illustrations,lists, glossary and hyperlinks for novice and experienced gardeners .
This app is similar to our product but the difference in our product is we allow the log the vegetables they grow and be given a visual presentation of their growth.

Today we had our first meeting of Week 10 of MP6 and it was very productive!
We have come up with a consistent layout to both our website & iPhone app,
Have a fully working prototype with about half our content collected for the final product.
The center of our meeting was the presentation, as in past we haven’t been precise on our multimedia solution, our target market & research we made these our priorities for Friday’s presentation.

We’ve decided on these 5 sections as the layout for our presentation:

1.INTRO: We propose to start the presentation by remind everyone what our task is and the problem we’ve must solve.We will then clearly outline what our product actually is,and the benefit that this multimedia product will have on the user.

2.TARGET MARKET // RESEARCH: Since the has been some confusion as to who we are actually pitching this product at, we will outline and define clearly our target market, with giving primary research and stating how we came to decide on our product.
We will show also in a additional document (that will be emailed prior to the presentation) with will further

3.PROTOTYPE DEMO : In this part of our presentation we will have both a working prototyping for our iPhone app and our supplementary Web Platform.We will show the layout we decided on and how we came to that decision, also we will outline how we came to decide on the colour palatte of our product.
We will tell how we plan have developed the product to tailer it the gardener’s needs and create a dynamic connection between the website and the iphone app.

4.Conclusion : Here, we will tell you where we are heading next.We will tell you how we intend to setup up a server to pass data from an iphone app to the website and vica versa.
